The new millennium brought Karlobag the realization that investment in quality and ambiance is key to success in the competitive market. Following the years of war and transition, the period 2010 – 2023 was marked by a great infrastructural momentum aimed at creating a modern and pleasant Mediterranean destination.
The focus was on the coast, the pride and lifeline of the town. An extensive refurbishment and renewal of the waterfronts (rive) began, restoring their old splendor but meeting new standards. To solve the chronic problem of summer crowds, a new parking lot was built behind the breakwater, which relieved the town center and improved accessibility.
A true transformation took place through the revitalization of the coastal belt. Promenades toward Cesarica and Tatinja bay were renovated and arranged, turning neglected parts of the coast into attractive routes for pedestrians, cyclists, and evening walkers. These projects directed Karlobag toward active holidays and natural beauty, offering more than just swimming.
The pictures from this period show clean lines, manicured surfaces, and better traffic solutions. Karlobag, while retaining its eternal view of the bare karst of Pag and the mighty Velebit, became a targeted destination for guests seeking a combination of untouched nature and modern amenities. Croatia's entry into the European Union further boosted investments and the influx of guests, allowing Karlobag to successfully complete its transition and stabilize itself as a quality tourist destination in the 21st century.
